Historical Collation

This list records variant readings between the 1824 text of "Tecumthé," published in the Canadian Review and Literary and Historical Journal, 1 (December, 1824), 396-432, and the 1826 text of Tecumthe, published in Tales of Chivalry and Romance (Edinburgh: James Robertson and Co.; London: Baldwin Cradock and Joy, 1826), pp. 75-177. In each entry the reading of the 1826 version is given before the square bracket and the reading of the 1824 version after the square bracket. Thus "Tecumthe] Tecumthé" indicates that in 1826 the title of the poem was changed from Tecumthé in the 1824 edition to Tecumthe.

There are no "Notes" in the 1824 text, but the present note 2, appeared in a slightly different form as a footnote to an asterisk at III, 2. In the 1824 text it read:

The Author of the foregoing stanzas, is happy in observing, that, since they are written, the foundation stone of a monumnet, to the memory of this gallant man has been laid; and it is to be hoped that, those feelings which should attend the remembrance of such an heroic deed, will be evinced in the liberal subscriptions to record his valour, and devotedness.
