EDITORIAL EMENDATIONS
This list records all the
emendations in the present edition to the copy-text, the first edition of Acadia in
the second issue (see Introduction, n.59, above) of Howes Poems and Essays (Montreal:
John Lovell, 1874). In this list H stands for the Harvard II manuscript
and Ed signifies an emendation made by the editor to correct errors in the
copy-text. In each entry the reading of the present text is given before the
] and the reading of the copy-text after the ], followed by the
source of the present reading in parentheses. Thus, 20 Euphrates]
Euphrates (H) indicates that in line 20 of the present text an apostrophe has been
added to Euphrates where there is none in the first edition, and that this
emendation has been made on the basis of the Harvard II manuscript.
